WE RAISED £160K FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN BRIGHTON!

On October 10th almost 200 of our supporters joined us for our popular annual event ‘Celebration Night’ held at the Sussex County Cricket Ground. The evening focused on the achievements of the past year, which saw an incredible £160,000 raised to help young people and their families in and around Brighton.Local businesses and other supporters including jazz singer Claire Martin OBE and Labour MP Peter Kyle all listened to some incredibly moving and inspiring stories of children and youngsters (aged 10-18) who have been able to change their lives after receiving our Edward Starr Award of up to £5000.Upon arrival, guests enjoyed a delectable glass of Sussex Sparkling from the Black Dog Vineyard in Ditchling, kindly paid for by Ian Poysden of IEP Financial who sponsored the evening and is also a mentor to one of our young cricket players. Young ‘Starrs’ who have received Art awards for music then took to the stage and sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ to an enraptured audience.Sascha Koehler from the Hilton Brighton Metropole and Keith Clarke from Accordance VAT then spoke with passion about why they support the Starr Trust and how much they value the incredible work they do for the young people of Brighton.Celebration Night was also a unique opportunity for many of our young Starrs, both past and present, to meet some of their benefactors who’ve been instrumental in making such a difference to their lives and helping them to fulfil their potential.Our Chairman Rob Starr said “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the past 11 years and honoured to be so involved with our wonderful community. Celebration Night is always such a positive evening and our young Starrs love meeting those wonderful supporters and businesses that give so much of their time and money. This year I also announced some exciting news. We will now be offering a new ‘Enterprise Award’ for young adults up to the age of 25 who continue to need help in achieving their goals”.
