17th September 2015The Starr Trust launched its exciting Multi Sport event at Adur Outdoor Activities Centre in Shoreham last Sunday 13th September. Sponsored by Brighton and Hove Buses, the day kicked off with a dozen teams made up of local businesses and which included a team of young people previously championed by the Starr Trust. They took part in wall climbing, archery, running and canoeing, all raising money to help youngsters living in the BN postcode.There were some fantastic activities for all the family including face-painting, kid’s races and games, arts and crafts, tombola and hoopla, a BBQ from local Carat’s Café, plus some fabulous raffle prizes to be won. All the events went ahead with the help of volunteers from the local community.The teams worked brilliantly together in a bid to win the B&H Buses’ Starr Wars Trophy and be named the Champions! The competition was organised with the help of Neil Laughton, the Event Director, and culminated in an Award Ceremony with the Trust’s Patron, Robin Cousins. The event managed to raise in excess of a whopping £6500 and the teams that took part were:Gemini Digital, SEICO Mortgages, Pursuit Properties,Brighton & Hove Buses, Rix and Kay Solicitors, Plus Accounting, Starbucks,Hilton Brighton Metropole, the Grand Hotel Brighton, ODT Solicitors and Starr Trust Champions.Tracey from the Trust said “Wow!! What an amazing day, it just couldn’t have gone any better. We have never put on this kind of event before but will certainly be running it again next year. It ran like clockwork with the help of all the fabulous volunteers and local businesses really getting behind us and with Neil Laughton leading the way, everyone had a brilliant time.”The winning team were local printers Gemini Digital with joint runners-up SEICO Mortgages and The Hilton Brighton Metropole.
