One of our ‘Starrs’ Spike Redman-Land, who is a keen young golfer, wanted to create a competition that would encourage juniors that had never played golf before.Spike and Sam Liddle, the Junior golf organiser at West Hove Golf Club put the heads together and created a Halloween Hunt for children. With some riddles and rhymes they helped the juniors find the hidden tricks and treats around the club’s 9 hole golf course.A great day was had by all, made all the better by the lovely sunny weather and the stunning setting of West Hove Golf Club. Over 40 people attended the event and many of the children that took part had never even held a golf club before. The atmosphere was brilliant. The Palling family rocked up to the first tee, the children not ever having played golf before, and after a few air shots got off to a great start and were crowned the winners of the day.Rotary Club of Brighton and Hove Soiree, who had donated the money for Spike’s golf clubs via the Starr Trust worked with West Hove Golf Club, the Starr Trust and Spike to come up with the idea of the Halloween Golf Day. Bill Heron from Rotary Club of Brighton and Hove Soiree, Sam and Mel supported Spike to get the event organised, and Rotary Club of Brighton and Hove Soiree also donated £250 to sponsor the event. To help with the event we brought along some actors in scary fancy dress who hid in various locations around the golf course. Ryan Fenwick Golf Academy very kindly supplied some golf clubs, bags, buggies and trollies where needed. David Gillies, the West Hove Captain, kindly presented the prizes to the winners who were:1st Place: The Palling Family2nd Place: The Fenwick Family3rd Place: Laurie and Juniors from Singing Hills Golf ClubThe Spike Redman Halloween Hunt was a huge success and encouraged families to try their hand at golf, all for a great cause.
