Seico, the locally based Insurance and Mortgage Group, owned by Rob Starr (also of the Starr Trust) has saved the day for SameSky by donating £3,500 to their last minute plea for funding of this year’s Burning The Clocks event in two weeks’ time.Earlier this month it was reported that local Brighton based arts charity SameSky were looking for a last minute financial boost to help fully deliver this year’s Burning The Clocks event which has happened every year since 1995.The charity had already started preparations for this year’s Burning The Clocks, which is happening on Saturday 21st December, however they still needed a large donor to come on board to ensure the event could run to full capacity, and now with this generous donation from Seico it certainly can.Rob Starr, who loves the event, said “I heard that SameSky were in need of some last minute funding. Because Burning The Clocks is such a wonderful family event involving local young people and so integral to the Brighton events calendar I wanted to contribute immediately.”Rob also added “Getting young people involved in arts and culture is so important to me and also one of the many reasons I founded and Chair the Starr Trust. Our main objective is to champion young people and help get them involved and achieve their goals and so it is for activities such as this that I wanted to be supportive.”The team behind Burning The Clocks is now on full steam ahead for a superb event on Brighton beach on Saturday 21st December. Artistic Director John Varah said “This is such an amazing and generous contribution; we are all overwhelmed and so excited about our 2013 parade.”Burning The Clocks is a unique community event that brings the whole city together with over 2000 children, parents and teachers taking part in the procession and up to 20,000 spectators. The event is held to mark the shortest day of the year. Local people make their own paper and willow lanterns and after processing through the city, they pass them into a blazing bonfire on Brighton beach, as a token of the year’s end.
