Our wonderful Patron Robin Cousins, Ice Skating Olympic Gold medal winner, came along to Worthing Ice Rink yesterday to give a very special ice skating session. At our Winter Extravaganza Ball last year Justine Smith won an amazing prize - for her and her children Ben, Charlotte and Millie to spend time learning to twirl with Robin!
It was an extra special occasion as this week marks 40 years since Robin won Gold at the Olympics. To celebrate this incredible achievement Alex Beresford, weatherman on Good Morning Britain and Dancing on Ice quarter finalist, was there to interview Robin for an ITV special to air later this week.
Justine told us
"My three children and I had the most fantastic morning organised by the Starr Trust. Robin Cousins, on the 40th anniversary week of his Gold Medal win at the Lake Placid Winter Olympics, donated his morning to taking us from complete ice skating novices to skaters confident enough to whizz around the rink without falling (much!). We had so much fun and learnt more than is possible in an hour. The ITV Meridian film crew and ex-Dancing on Ice quarter finalist were there to film Robin and the children. And at the end we had a delicious full English breakfast at Worthing Ice Rink. The perfect morning - so happy we won this amazing prize at the Starr Trust Ball and that the money is going to such a fantastic charity".
We are so grateful to Robin for giving up his time, to Worthing Ice Rink for their continued support and to Justine for coming along and supporting us at our Winter Ball.
