This summer saw the welcome return of Brighton’s Big Screen to the beach from 30 July- 26 August. This year, the screen was bigger and better than before, and in a new, central location- Dalton’s Bastion beach, close to the Brighton Wheel and Brighton Pier. Also new this year was Murray Media’s support of local young people’s charity the Starr Trust.Director of Starr Trust, Darren Abrahams says:“We were thrilled to be chosen by Murray Media as the charity partner for Brighton’s Big Screen this summer. We’re both small organisations working hard to make a difference in the city and understand the importance of partnerships in making a bigger impact. It was great for us to be able to reach a larger audience through the Big Screen.Every morning from 10am- noon, the Starr Trust hosted Big Screen’s Kids Scene which was a chance for children of all ages to be entertained with short films, stories and their favourite CBeebies shows all on the big screen and all for free. The Trust were thrilled to be working in partnership with the city’s best-loved independent children’s bookshop, The Book Nook in Hove, whose Book Nook Storyteller delighted audiences, and Brighton’s Sea Life Centre who gave a daily rock pool display. On Friday mornings, the team welcomed special guests from across the city who provided extra entertainment such as face-painting, live music and opportunities to present special birthday cards and messages on the 40 foot screen.Bill Murray, MD of Murray Media says:“Working with the Trust has been a real eye-opener. It has been amazing to see what is actually achievable when you combine bright, joined up thinking with such a professional and dedicated team of people”Over £700 was raised All donations made at the Big Screen will go back into this work with young people in the local community.
