The Starr Trust recently ran a competition for students who had participated in its Starr Pioneers programme; a unique partnership between schools and businesses designed to help develop Social Entrepreneurship in young people. This fun competition was for girls attending their first Prom this year and in collaboration with the Brighton digital marketing agency ThoughtShift, the girls were asked to share ‘what their journey of change was during their time on the Starr Pioneers programme’.The winning entry would receive a fantastic makeover with hair by Shine Hair & Beauty, makeup by Benefit in Boots Brighton and Jewellery by Kardashian Kollection Jewellery. The prize went to Ella Bertorelli, a 16 year old from Blatchington Mill School in Hove and this was her winning statement:“Throughout my Starr Pioneers experience I learnt many things, from organisation skills for charity events to making mandalas! Before this I wasn’t very confident but being around new people and helpful mentors encouraged me to become a more confident person. I participated with the events as much as I could and helped plan them with others. Doing this really helped me to learn new things about those who are in need of our help.”ElIa was delighted that she won and told us “I really enjoyed the attention of the makeover, it made me feel really special”. Jonathan Harries from Shine said it was an absolute delight to work with such an upbeat and positive charity as the Starr Trust and told us “I really hope our small offering to the lovely Ella made a difference”.
