Triathlon 10 - 52x52 Challenge

Friday 04/03/22

Number Ten

Swim - 42.39

Bike - 1.26.37

Run - 1.07.14

Triathlon 10 completed - in the sunnier climes of Johannesburg South Africa.

I am here for the week on business, so had no choice but to find a way of doing it here. Luckily around the corner from my hotel is a Virgin Active gym. So I joined up on a day membership and this morning, after only 2 hours sleep, used their 25 metre outdoor pool to do the 1500m swim. Then I jumped on a watt bike and did the 40k bike. For the run I braved the streets! To be fair I have been here so many times I know it well enough to stay safe and I chose a running route around a nice area (albeit hilly!). It was probably the hardest Tri so far out of the ten I have done because apart from the lack of sleep it was already 24 degrees by 9am when I hit the streets and the air is so much thinner at over 1600m above sea level compared to my Brighton runs. I was literally panting like a basset hound! This challenge certainly keeps challenging me. I leave South Africa next Monday, so number eleven will be back in my lovely Brighton; I am sure when running along the seafront in the rain I shall look back on today and wonder why I was complaining!

Triathlon 51 - 52x52 Challenge

That was one of the hardest yet both physically and mentally. Physically because my back is still in muscle spasm, caused by a Crohn's flare up that needed rest but didn’t get it. Mentally because the whole triathlon was done gym based, which meant no sea, no air, no trees, no birds - just a clock telling me I’ve hardly started!
